Assignment #9. Silence is consent.
May 13, 2009
With respect to the reading “The cycle of Socialization” by Bobbie Haro, he writes when explaining how our actions affect predjudice and discrimination, that “our silence is our consent.” (pp 20).
What does the author mean? Explain using examples, possible find articles that speak on this.
If you don’t speak up you accept what is happening.

Examples of this would be if you were to hear some person speack about a diffrent race or even the way a person choices to live their life and you dont state your opion about how those words make you feel.
Allowing for a person to say “oh thats gay” and just letting them say it. Your allowing people to get away with it and showing thats how you feel or that you accept it as being right.
It could also be concerning a casue that you are a part of, not speacking up to or against the government or what ever higher power you may have to, to get you point or feelings across.
It just like being a witness to a crime or car crash and not coming forward to reveal the information that you hold. Being silent doesn’t get you anywhere, and shows people that you either dont care or well follow what ever is going on.

I completely agree. If you never speak up against social injustice, you are just allowing it to keep on occurring.
